Photo Walk Fridays: Sugar Loaf, NY

Sugar Loaf is a sweet little art and craft village just 10 minutes from where we live. It's been around for 250 years and became a thriving craft center in the 1970s. It's filled with adorable shops that are always open on the weekend, and sometimes during the week. It really makes me happy to come here, there are so many things to discover and I love to see people living thier passions. Many of the business owners not only live and work in the shops, but often make most of what they are selling. When I visit here I dream of a life of simply making and selling my art. If you are in the area, it is a wonderful place to spend an afternoon.

Places to Visit:

Sugar Loaf Art & Craft Village: Visit this site for a full list of all the shops in town, special events and directions.

Sugar Loaf Mountain Herbs: I have never been inside a shop that smelled so good. They sell plants and herbs out front and inside they have teas, dried herbs and lots of all natural and organic products.

Barnsider Restaurant and Tavern: Decent bar food, kid friendly and lots of interesting local artifacts and information.

J Hengen Designs: Incredible jewelry and pottery by Jessica Hengen in this Romer's Alley shop.

Rosner's Traditional Soap Makers: Another fabulous smelling shop. Who doesn't need soap?

Next Generation Hobbies: My husband take the kids here all the time on the weekend. They have comic books, collectables, and lots of great toys.

Lycian Center: I have yet to attend a performance here, but I'm looking forward to taking the kids to see some music on the outdoor summer stage this year.

There are many other fantastic shops in Sugar Loaf, so be sure to make a visit, even from New York City. It's well worth the drive up to spend the day wandering around this charming village.

Have you visited Sugar Loaf? What are your favorite shops?
